Advent Rising

Advent Rising is a third-person action game where you play Gideon Wyeth, a human survivor fighting an alien race bent on wiping out humanity. After Earth falls, you're trained by a friendly alien species called the Aurelians to use superhuman abilities against your pursuers, the Seekers. Combat mixes gunplay with powers you unlock as the story progresses. The plot, written by Orson Scott Card, was meant to kick off a trilogy that never materialized—sequels got axed after lukewarm sales. Still, it's picked up a small fanbase over the years for its ambitious narrative and ability-focused combat. If you're curious about early-2000s sci-fi shooters that swung big, this one's a time capsule.
