Dead or Alive 2 is a 3D fighter built around a three-way counter system: strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, holds beat strikes. Landing hits can stun opponents, freezing them long enough for a combo starter. Character weight affects how far they fly when launched and how juggles connect, so a lightweight reacts differently than a heavyweight to the same move. Stages matter—ice patches make you slip, water slows movement, and ring edges let you knock people off ledges or into walls for extra damage. Environmental hazards turn positioning into part of the strategy. CG cutscenes frame the fights with story context.
