FIFA Soccer 06 is a football sim built around tighter player control. The main addition here is first touch mechanics—when the ball reaches your player, you've got more say in how they receive it, letting you redirect passes or set up your next move before defenders close in. Freestyle tricks work through a shoulder button plus analog stick combination, no memorized button sequences required. The control scheme aims for quicker response times between what you press and what happens on screen. You can place passes with more accuracy than previous entries, which opens up tactical options if you're the type to think two passes ahead. Standard modes return: career, exhibition matches, tournaments. It's EA's 2005 attempt at making football games feel less scripted and more reactive to your input.
