Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
A Japanese RPG sequel told through episodic chapters, picking up seventeen years after the original game. You traverse a world map fighting random encounters, visit towns for gear and rest, then tackle dungeons for loot and boss fights. Combat uses the Active Time Battle system—characters act when their gauges fill—with tweaks like new abilities for returning classes. The episodic structure means you unlock the full world map only in the final chapter. Ceodore, son of the previous game's protagonists, joins the Red Wings airship fleet as monsters swarm the planet under a mysterious second moon. Expect familiar mechanics and assets repurposed from the predecessor, with improvements to menus and character portraits. If you want more time with these characters but in bite-sized story arcs, that's the pitch.
