Rubrum controls magic through the Vermillion Bird Crystal, Milites wields weapons via the White Tiger Crystal, Concordia commands dragons with the Azure Dragon Crystal, and Lorica shields itself using the Black Tortoise Crystal. Each nation runs an academy to protect its crystal. Crystals can mark humans as l'Cie, servants granted long life and the power to crystallize but cursed to lose memories over time. Orience's people also forget the dead, a system designed by the crystals' creators to fuel endless conflict. You're trying to become Agito, a prophesied savior meant to prevent Tempus Finis—an apocalypse threatening to wipe out the world.
