God of War is a hack-and-slash action game where you control Kratos, a Spartan warrior bound by tragedy. After being tricked into killing his own family by Ares, the God of War, Kratos serves the other Olympian gods while hunting for a way to destroy his former master. The goddess Athena sends him to find Pandora's Box—the only weapon capable of stopping Ares, who's currently tearing Athens apart. Combat centers on the Blades of Chaos, chained weapons you swing in brutal close-quarters combos. The setting pulls from Greek mythology: you'll fight mythological creatures and navigate ancient temples. Kratos' ash-white skin (literally his family's ashes fused to him) and his rage drive the tone. It's violent, focused on spectacle kills, and built around a personal revenge story rather than saving the world for altruistic reasons.
