Killzone: Liberation is a top-down tactical shooter set two months after the first Killzone. You control Templar on covert missions to rescue hostages from Helghast forces occupying southern Vekta. The shift from first-person to isometric perspective changes the flow—you can pause mid-firefight to zoom out into a tactical view that slows time and highlights objectives with icons, letting you plan movement and attacks before resuming. Combat mixes real-time shooting with these strategic pauses. Ad Hoc multiplayer supports up to six players across co-op missions and competitive modes including Deathmatch, Assault, and Capture the Flag. The campaign focuses on small-unit operations against an occupying enemy using brutal tactics. Plays differently than its PS2 predecessor while keeping the same war-torn setting.
