Odallus is a side-scrolling action-platformer built around exploration and combat. You play Haggis, a retired soldier forced back into battle when villages fall and families are threatened by power-hungry forces—human and otherwise. The game draws from 8-bit design: expect branching paths, hidden areas, and checkpoint-based progression through monster-filled stages. Combat leans on pattern recognition and timing rather than button-mashing. You'll backtrack with new abilities to reach previously inaccessible zones. The pixel art and color palette echo NES-era limitations, though the level design allows for nonlinear exploration modern players expect. Boss fights punctuate each major area. If you want deliberate combat with a map that rewards curiosity, this delivers that loop without hand-holding.
