Phantasie

Phantasie is a turn-based RPG set on Gelnor, an island split by mountains into two distinct regions. The western side houses humans and allied races dealing with rogue Orcs and Lizardmen, while the east is dominated by dragons, trolls, and giants fighting for control. You create a party of adventurers to combat Nikademus, a sorcerer whose Black Knights terrorize towns and extract tribute. Combat uses a tactical system where you position party members and choose actions each round. You'll recruit from multiple races, manage equipment and spells, and explore dungeons scattered across both territories. The game lets you build a party from scratch, picking classes and races that complement each other. Expect old-school difficulty: permadeath is possible, and mapping dungeons by hand helps. Good fit for anyone who enjoys methodical party-building and doesn't mind 1980s interface conventions.
