Rebel Assault is a rail shooter built around full-motion video clips from the original Star Wars trilogy. You play a Rebel pilot flying scripted missions—destroying a Star Destroyer's turrets, raiding an Imperial facility, and making the trench run on the Death Star. Gameplay alternates between space dogfights where you dodge TIE fighters and ground sequences piloting speeders or on-foot segments. Your ship follows a predetermined path while you aim a reticle and fire at targets. Timing matters more than tactics. The CD-ROM format let the developers layer digitized film footage as backgrounds, which was novel in 1993 but means you're watching as much as playing. Missions are short and arcade-like. If you want to relive specific Star Wars moments with a joystick rather than control a freeform starfighter sim, this delivers that narrow experience.
