Twisted Metal is a vehicular combat game where you pick one of 12 cars and fight through arena battles against escalating opposition. Each vehicle has a unique driver and special move. You accelerate, brake, handbrake-turn, and fire missiles or machine guns at rival cars until they explode. Arenas contain weapon pickups to reload your arsenal and repair stations to patch up damage. Pedestrians wander the combat zones, and armed course stewards add extra hazards. Battles grow larger and more chaotic as you progress toward a final showdown with Darkside, last year's champion, who drives a heavily armored vehicle that launches volleys of missiles. It's straightforward destruction: drive, shoot, survive. No story interruptions between fights—just arena after arena of car-on-car carnage.
