Wing Commander: Privateer is a space sim where you're a freelancer in the Gemini Sector's Troy System, a frontier zone between the Kilrathi Empire and open space. You start with a run-down scout ship and minimal credits, then decide your own path—trade goods between stations, smuggle contraband, take bounty contracts, or mix all three. The game doesn't assign missions or force a storyline; you pick jobs from bulletin boards and NPCs based on what pays or what faction you want to help. Combat happens in real-time cockpit view when pirates or rivals attack. You earn credits to upgrade your ship's weapons, shields, and cargo hold, or save up for better hulls. Multiple factions control different systems, and your reputation with each shifts based on your actions. It's open-ended: make money however you want, with no single correct career.
