Ecco Jr. is a side-scrolling underwater puzzle-adventure where you guide a young dolphin through the ocean to find Big Blue, a giant whale. The core loop involves swimming through marine environments, encountering Crystal Doors (called Glyphs) that block your path, and solving their challenges to proceed. Each door has a specific requirement—you might need to collect items, interact with sea creatures, or complete small tasks before it opens. The game uses simple swimming controls as you explore coral reefs and kelp forests populated by friendly marine life. Progression is linear but gated by these puzzle doors. It's aimed at younger players, with a gentler difficulty curve than the original Ecco titles and a focus on exploration over combat.
