Hotel Mario
Hotel Mario is a puzzle game where you close doors. Mario moves through multi-floor hotels, shutting every door on each stage to proceed. Enemies respawn doors you've closed, forcing you to plan routes carefully and time your movements. Elevators ferry you between floors, adding a layer of spatial strategy since you can't always reach every door directly. The first six hotels contain ten stages each, while the seventh stretches to fifteen. Difficulty ramps through enemy variety and layout complexity. It's straightforward mechanically—walk to door, close it, repeat—but execution demands pattern recognition and quick reflexes as stages grow denser. The CD-i's commercial failure kept this one obscure, though it offers a weird footnote for puzzle fans curious about Nintendo's experimental mid-'90s output.
