Mega Man X3 is a side-scrolling action platformer where you play as X (or briefly control Zero) fighting through eight Maverick stages in any order. Set in Doppler Town, a city built by scientist reploid Dr. Doppler after he developed an anti-virus to cure Mavericks—rogue robots infected by the Sigma Virus. The cure worked until Doppler himself got infected and turned the town's reploids against the Maverick Hunters. You collect boss weapons after each stage, unlock upgrades for X's armor, and face themed environments tied to each Maverick's design. Zero can be called in for limited combat sequences.
