Octopath Traveler
Turn-based RPG where you pick one of eight characters, each with their own storyline and starting region. You'll eventually recruit the others, building a party that shares the map but keeps individual narrative threads separate. Combat uses a break system: exploit enemy weaknesses to strip their defense, then unload damage during their stunned turn. Outside fights, each character has a Path Action—the warrior challenges NPCs to duels, the dancer recruits townsfolk as temporary allies, the thief steals items. These abilities open different routes through towns and quests. The aesthetic layers 16-bit sprite work over 3D environments with depth-of-field blur, creating a diorama effect the developers call HD-2D. Expect traditional JRPG structure: random encounters, turn-based menus, gear upgrades, and discrete dungeons.
