Praetorians

Praetorians is a real-time strategy game where you command Roman legions across three campaigns set in Egypt, Gaul, and Italy. You control one of three factions—Romans, Gauls, or Egyptians—each with distinct unit types and tactics. Combat focuses on formations and terrain exploitation: high ground, forests, and chokepoints matter. The AI adjusts to landscapes like mountains and beaches, forcing you to adapt positioning and unit composition. Twenty single-player missions vary objectives beyond simple conquest. Multiplayer supports up to eight players. No base-building or resource gathering—you work with the troops you're given. Fits players who prefer tactical maneuvering over economy management.
