About
R-Type Leo is a horizontal shoot 'em up that breaks from series tradition with two-player simultaneous play—a first for the franchise. You pilot distinct ships through enemy waves, collecting upgrades as you progress. Originally developed by Nanao as an independent shooter, Irem reworked it into this R-Type spin-off, which shows in its divergent mechanics. The combat moves quickly, demanding reflexes as patterns intensify. Ships handle differently from prior entries, and the upgrade system offers tactical variation during runs. It's the final arcade entry in the original R-Type line. If you want a cooperative scrolling shooter with the R-Type name but not its usual formula, this delivers that specific niche.
