Samurai Shodown

Fighting game set in feudal Japan where you pick from 12 warriors to stop Amakusa, a possessed cult leader plotting to cover the world in darkness. Combat emphasizes weapon-based strikes and precise timing over lengthy combos—a single heavy slash can decide a round. Each fighter wields a distinct weapon (katana, spear, claws) and has their own move set. Stages draw from historical Japanese settings. Three bonus characters unlock after meeting certain conditions. Rounds are quick and punishing, rewarding patience and reading your opponent's openings rather than button-mashing.
