Samurai Shodown III

Samurai Shodown III is a 2D weapon-based fighter that ditched the series' lighter tone for something grimmer. The entire roster got redrawn with darker character designs—comedic fighters were cut, and even returning characters like kabuki performer Kyoshiro became stoic and muscular. Combat revolves around precise weapon strikes, blocks, and the series' signature heavy damage per hit. Animation is notably smoother than its predecessor, with fluid motion across all fighters. The aesthetic shift extends to stages and presentation, aiming for a more serious samurai drama feel. If you want flashier movesets over the prior games' comedic edge, this reboot attempt delivers technical dueling in a moodier package.
