Sonic Unleashed is a 3D platformer split into two distinct gameplay modes. Daytime stages lean into high-speed running—you're blasting through loops, grinding rails, and chaining boost pads at breakneck pace. Night stages flip the script: Sonic transforms into the Werehog, a bulkier form with stretchy arms, and the game shifts to combat-focused platforming. You're punching and grabbing enemies called Gaia creatures, solving light environmental puzzles, and navigating slower, more deliberate sequences. The day/night split divides each level type roughly 50/50. If you want pure momentum, the daytime sections deliver that classic Sonic rush. The Werehog stuff is slower brawling with simple combos—it's a hard pivot in pacing and tone within the same game.
