Split/Second is an arcade racer where you compete in a fictional TV show on tracks rigged with explosives. Instead of relying solely on speed or ramming opponents, you trigger environmental destruction—collapsing buildings, detonating gas stations, dropping planes onto the road—by filling a power meter through drafting, drifting, and near-misses. Timing matters: blow a water tower too early and you waste it; nail the moment and you flatten three rivals at once. Some triggers reshape the track mid-race, opening shortcuts or blocking existing routes. Races feel less like traditional circuit competitions and more like choreographed chaos where positioning and awareness of destructible objects trump pure driving skill. It's built for players who want spectacle baked into the racing itself rather than tacked on as cutscenes.
