Yars' Revenge is an Atari 2600 shooter where you control a fly-like alien attacking a fortress. Your Yar nibbles through a protective barrier to expose the enemy Qotile, then fires a cannon shot to destroy it before it fires back. You alternate between chewing the shield, dodging energy missiles, and timing your strike. A neutral zone in the screen's center lets you safely turn around. The Qotile's destroyer missile homes in on you, forcing constant movement. Each cleared screen ups the difficulty. The game mixes offense and evasion—you can't just shoot wildly. It's built around a risk-reward loop: get close to deal damage, but linger too long and you're toast. Designed by Howard Scott Warshaw, it became Atari's best-selling original title and remains a tight, twitchy arcade experience.
