Yoshi's New Island is a 2D platformer where you guide Yoshi carrying Baby Mario through side-scrolling levels, throwing eggs at enemies and collecting items. The core mechanics return: Flutter Jump for extended air time, Ground Pound to break blocks, and aiming eggs at targets. New additions include Mega Eggdozers and Metal Eggdozers that demolish larger obstacles. Yoshi transforms into vehicles like a jackhammer or submarine, controlled by tilting your 3DS. Grab a specific star and you become Super Yoshi, flying freely or running on walls and ceilings. If you're stuck on a level, Flutter Wings appear to let you skip tough sections by staying airborne. The story picks up right after the first game—Baby Mario got delivered to the wrong parents, so the stork tries again but Kamek kidnaps Baby Luigi mid-flight, forcing Yoshi to escort Baby Mario across Egg Island.
