Archon
Archon is a strategy game that merges chess-like board positioning with real-time combat. You control fantasy units—wizards, phoenixes, knights, golems—each with distinct movement patterns and abilities. The board alternates between light and dark squares that strengthen or weaken your pieces depending on their alignment. When two units occupy the same space, you fight it out in a top-down arena instead of an automatic capture. Combat is action-based: you dodge, cast spells, or strike in real time, meaning a weaker piece can win through skillful play. Five power points scattered across the board grant spells when held. Victory comes from controlling these points, eliminating the enemy's leader, or wiping out their army. It's chess where the outcome of each confrontation isn't predetermined.
