Darkwood is a top-down survival horror set in a procedurally generated forest where day-night cycles dictate your strategy. During daylight, you scavenge materials, craft gear, and navigate encounters with the woods' inhabitants—some trade, others attack. Conversations reveal fragments of what happened here, but expect ambiguity over exposition. When night falls, you retreat to a safehouse you've fortified with barricades and traps, then either hide in silence or fight off creatures drawn to light and sound. Death has consequences: the roguelike structure means lost progress stings. Combat is deliberate and resource management matters—waste ammo or healing items early and you'll regret it. The perspective and muted palette create disorientation rather than jump scares. If you want answers handed to you or forgiving checkpoints, look elsewhere. This one rewards patience and pattern recognition.
