Turn-based RPG where you control Ness, a kid from a fictionalized American suburb who's tasked with stopping an alien entity called Giygas. Instead of swords and castles, you're fighting with baseball bats and yo-yos through towns, deserts, and roadside diners. Combat uses a rolling HP counter that ticks down damage gradually, letting you heal before a fatal hit registers if you're quick. You'll recruit three other kids as party members, each with psychic abilities. The quest involves visiting eight sanctuary locations to collect melodies that unlock your full power. Enemies range from possessed taxicabs to cultists to living piles of vomit. Status effects include homesickness, which forces you to call your mom. Tone shifts between goofy (a band of blues brothers clones blocks your path) and unsettling (the final boss sequence). Suits players who want something stranger than the genre typically offers.
