New Super Mario Bros.

Side-scrolling platformer that brings Mario back to 2D after years of 3D adventures. You run, jump, and stomp through levels built around classic power-ups—Fire Flowers, Super Mushrooms—plus new additions like the Mega Mushroom, which lets you bulldoze through pipes and enemies at giant size. The DS touch screen holds a spare power-up and shows how much level remains. Peach gets kidnapped during a picnic (naturally), sending Mario across the Mushroom Kingdom's themed worlds. Beyond the main story, there's a competitive two-player wireless mode called Mario Vs. Luigi and minigames supporting up to four players. Level design echoes the original NES games but adds wall-jumps and ground-pounds. If you want Mario platforming without the camera swivel, this delivers it.
