Turn-based RPG where you catch, train, and battle creatures called Pokémon across the Sinnoh region. You pick one of three starter Pokémon (Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup), then travel between towns challenging eight Gym Leaders who specialize in different Pokémon types. Between gym battles, you'll disrupt Team Galactic—a criminal group attempting to capture legendary Pokémon and reshape the region. Combat uses a type-advantage system: fire beats grass, water beats fire, and so on. The game adds 107 new Pokémon to catch and introduces online trading and battles via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Your goal is filling the Pokédex (a creature encyclopedia) and eventually defeating the Elite Four plus Champion to become Sinnoh League Champion. Trading with Pearl Version lets you access version-exclusive Pokémon. Post-game content includes a new island area with tougher battles and rare species.
