On-rails space shooter where you pilot an Arwing fighter through branching planetary missions across the Lylat System. You're Fox McCloud leading a four-animal mercenary team against scientist-turned-warlord Andross. Most levels scroll forward automatically while you blast enemy ships and dodge terrain, but some open into full 3D arenas. Choose easy, medium, or hard routes through 15+ stages—your performance determines which path unlocks next. Occasionally you'll swap the Arwing for a hover tank or submarine. Four-player split-screen lets you dogfight friends in three different modes. Voice acting replaced the predecessor's animal sounds, and this introduced force-feedback controller support. If you want a lean arcade shooter with replayable routes and don't mind being on rails most of the time, it delivers that.
