Super Fantasy Zone is a side-scrolling shooter where you pilot a sentient spaceship through looping horizontal stages, destroying enemy bases to trigger boss encounters. Originally released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1992, it's the only entry in the series developed entirely by Sunsoft rather than Sega. The core loop mirrors earlier Fantasy Zone games: earn currency from defeated enemies, spend it on weapon and engine upgrades between stages, then clear marked targets before facing each zone's guardian. The game skipped a physical North American cartridge release but later appeared on Wii Virtual Console. Expect colorful, arcade-style action with an emphasis on memorizing base locations and managing your loadout budget across multiple lives.
