Band Hero is a music rhythm game built on Guitar Hero 5's framework, swapping rock tracks for Top 40 pop hits. You play lead guitar, bass, drums, or vocals using plastic instrument controllers, with up to four players joining or leaving mid-song. The game lets you switch instruments and difficulty on the fly without pausing. Its 65-song setlist leans heavily into radio-friendly pop rock from the late 2000s. Celebrity avatars of Taylor Swift, Adam Levine, and No Doubt appear as playable characters. The DS version ditches full-sized controllers for a Guitar Grip accessory or bundled Drum Skin peripheral. Drop-in co-op and competitive modes carry over from Guitar Hero 5 unchanged. If you wanted Guitar Hero's mechanics applied to mainstream pop instead of classic rock, that's the pitch here—though the smaller tracklist compared to its sibling raised questions about value at launch.
