Tales of Destiny is a JRPG that swaps turn-based combat for side-scrolling action battles. You control the protagonist directly during fights—moving across a 2D plane, chaining attacks, and executing combos like a fighter. Your party members act on their own AI, but you can pause mid-battle to adjust their tactics. The setup: a comet crash split civilization into sky-dwellers (Aethers) and surface survivors (Erthers). You're Stahn, a stowaway on a flying ship who finds a talking sword named Dymlos during an attack. That weapon—a sentient Swordian from an old war—becomes your key tool. Between fights, you navigate towns and dungeons in standard RPG fashion. Progression, equipment, and story beats follow genre norms. The combat system is the main deviation—if you want menu-driven battles, this isn't it.
